Chair Mathilde Bazinet and Fundraising Committee Co-Chairs Marlene Wood and Ian Martyn all agree that the first annual Nipissing Serenity Hospice “Hike for Hospice” was a tremendous success. As of May 4, the total raised was $56,438! And, donations and pledges continue to come in.
The event took place at the scenic Laurier Woods in North Bay with over 400 participants from throughout Nipissing and East Parry Sound taking part. The Master of Ceremony for the Hike was former MP, Bob Wood who, along with current MP, Anthony Rota and Mayor, Al McDonald welcomed all the participants and thanked the volunteers for their many contributions to making the day such a success.
The Royal Bank was the lead sponsor for the Hike for Hospice and the Regional and Branch Managers were on hand, along with their terrific RBC Team, to make a significant $5,000 donation to our hospice.
Refreshments were enjoyed by the huge crowd and graciously provided by gd2go and East Side Mario’s.
We thank all of the teams who participated, all of the people who joined teams and everyone who just made donations. What a testament to the support we have garnered from the community. Thank you from all of us and on behalf of future palliative patients and their families.
Thank you to the Fundraising Committee members, Sabrina Giustra, the lead for the Hike for Hospice, Norma Brousseau, Volunteer Coordinator, Tammy Walters, Media Coordinator, Marlene Wood and Ian Martyn, Fundraising Co-Chairs and all of the many, many volunteers who gave their time and skills to make this event so very successful. We also need to thank local photographer, Liz Lott, for volunteering her time for the day to take all of our Hike for Hospice pictures.
We are very proud to say that we greatly exceeded our fundraising goal and we could not have done it without the support of our volunteers and the citizens of our communities.
