Nine years ago my mother lived in a hospice for three weeks during which our family was overwhelmed by the compassionate care we all received. Encouraged to discover later that dedicated people in North Bay were raising funds for a similar facility, I knew that I wanted to one day, somehow be involved with the Nipissing Serenity Hospice. When NSH opened, my daughter, a nurse on staff, suggested that I consider playing the piano for residents, so that is what I do! My favourite part of volunteering at the hospice is the people, interacting with residents and staff as I share a variety of music on the piano.

Our earthly life is a journey that has a beginning and an end with a span of years in between. My advice to anyone thinking about volunteering at the hospice is to keep in mind that the residents are still living their journey. It is my privilege to spend some of life’s moments with the people who live at Nipissing Serenity Hospice.
