Registered Nurse – Full Time
Nipissing Serenity Hospice is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team!
The Registered Nurse (RN), under the direction of the Care Coordinator, will primarily be responsible for providing quality end of life care to residents within Nipissing Serenity Hospice, ensuring best practice and dignity in all aspects of care. The RN, in collaboration with the care team, will create individualized care plans for each resident with a focus on quality end of life care. The RN communicates and documents decisions made by the resident and family members regarding their goals for palliative and end of life care. The RN will meet with the multidisciplinary team regularly to ensure the residents goals of care are met and symptoms are managed. This position will demonstrate knowledge and skill in holistic, family-centered nursing care of persons at end-of-life who are experiencing pain and other symptoms. This role will also utilize best practice assessment tools for baseline and ongoing assessment of pain, including word descriptors, body maps, precipitating and alleviating factors, and documents pain assessments. The Registered Nurse must possess degree or diploma in nursing and current license with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing. Rate of pay is $30.25 per hour and a full benefits package is offered.

Job Duties
- Communicates and documents decisions made by the patient and family members regarding their goals for palliative and end-of-life care.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in holistic, family-centered nursing care of persons at end-of-life who are experiencing pain and other symptoms.
- Utilizes best practice assessment tools for baseline and ongoing assessment of pain, including word descriptors, body maps, precipitating and alleviating factors, and documents pain assessments
- Encourage open communication among residents and families when discussing issues, problems, or concerns
- Communicate daily with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate patient care and support in consultation with individuals and their families
- Recognize the importance of personal awareness and self-care, and commits to a plan of self-care in order to stay physically, mentally and emotionally healthy
- Care at end of life: Preparing the resident for dying by providing comfort, security and connection.

- Provide ongoing advocacy and support to residents
- Advise patients and their families on health care including health promotion, disease, illness, and accident prevention
- Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate patient care and support in consultation with individuals and their families
- Respect and protect the rights of clients, including but not limited to their right to independence, autonomy, and self-determination; their right to choose and practice individual values, beliefs, religion, and culture; their right to privacy and dignity
- Use effective interpersonal skills to communicate complex and sensitive information
- Maintain work area in a clean and professional manner at all times, ensuring proper tools and equipment are available when needed
- Monitor patient progress, keeping records, charts, reports, etc. up to date
- Provide a consistently high standard of care and support for patients
- Provide direct and comprehensive care and assistance to patients with specialized and complex needs
- Encourage open communication among residents and families when discussing issues, problems, or concerns
- Provide education and counselling to patients and families
- Demonstrate cooperation among other staff members in order to ensure efficiency of care and support for patients
- Protect the health and safety of others by adopting safe work practices and reporting unsafe conditions immediately
- Prepare and submit accurate reports, records, and charts
Job Requirements
- Degree or diploma in nursing
- Current license with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing
- CNA certification through the Canadian Nurses Association is preferred
- Experience working with palliative/end of life patients
- Bilingual in English and French (spoken and written) is preferred
- Clean vulnerable sector check (VSC) and clear criminal record check (CRC)
- Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times

- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
