Visiting Hours

COVID-19: Important Notice Updated June 1

How can visitors help manage the risk?

There are no restrictions regarding visiting hours or the number of visitors allowed.

You and your family are encouraged to determine the time of day, the number of visitors and amount of time to be spent with visitors. The front door is open from approximately 8:00am to 6:00pm; when locked access is granted via a buzzer. At times, you and your family may wish not to be disturbed by visitors. The clinical staff will kindly support and provide reassurance to your visitors. All visitors must be respectful of residents and keep noise levels and possible disturbances to a minimum. We ask that visitors not visit if they are ill with fever, vomiting or diarrhea.

We encourage visitors to call ahead to ensure our resident is feeling up to a visit.

What Family and Visitors Can Do

There are many things family members and visitors can do to care for the dying loved one:

  •     Keep company by talking, watching movies, reading aloud.
  •     Just “be” with the person; no need to “do” anything.
  •     Allow them to express fears and concerns.
  •     Be prepared to listen.
  •     Be willing to reminisce about their life.
  •     Avoid withholding difficult information – be honest.
  •     Reassure them that you will honour their advance care planning and health care choices.
  •     Ask if there is anything you can do.
  •     Respect their need for privacy.

Hand washing

All visitors are asked to disinfect their hands with alcohol-based hand rub upon entering the facility and when entering and leaving the resident’s room. This will reduce the spread of harmful bacteria and viruses.

Fragrance Free

The facility must be scent free. Perfumes, colognes and scented products are not permitted at any time. Please inform your visitors in advance of coming. Visitors will be instructed to leave the facility should this policy not be respected.

Pets

Pets are considered a family member and are welcome. Pets should be groomed, have their vaccinations up to date and have a friendly disposition. Pets are to be on a leash when in the common areas and we ask you please keep pets out of the dining/servery area. Pets are allowed to reside in the room with family but need to be supervised at all times by a family member. We ask that families respect our outside gardens and spaces regarding the need to clean up after their pet.
